pretty much brainstorming here! i realized that the intro for Kenny Dorham's "Blue Bossa" that I wrote a while back sounded good as a reggae groove, and that gave me the idea to remix all of "Blue Bossa" into a reggae tune... i used my typical recording process: 1. beatboxed the "live click" track, 2. recorded the synth keyboard chops (which serve both percussive & harmonic functions in reggae) using a the Fender Rhodes sample on my Roland XV 5080 sound module and Studio Logic weighted MIDI controller (with the onboard "phaser" effect toggled live while recording the track), 3. added the electric bass guitar part (customized G&L 5 string tuned EADGC), 4. finally, the melody was recorded using a "muted trumpet" sample (using the same Roland sound module and MIDI controller)... stereo mixdown using Audacity. only volume & panning adjustments were made: no chopping/time stretching/warping/quantization/looping etc. was used. a lowpass filter was applied to the bass track after the intro section to give it more of a reggae tone. no other effects or filters were used.
